LEE VINING, MONO COUNTY — October 22, 2026. Visitors and residents approaching Lee Vining via U.S. 395 should expect weekday roadwork between State Route 120 West and Picnic Grounds Road during the week of October 26–30, according to a new Caltrans District 9 advisory.

What is happening on the road

The Lee Vining Pavement Rehabilitation Project includes replacing sewer and drainage systems. Caltrans says outside lanes and shoulders in both directions may be restricted 24 hours a day during the workweek, while the impacted parts reopen on weekends. Additional intermittent lane, driveway or intersection closures are possible as crews work.

The listed work shift is Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; however, the bulletin separately describes the lanes and shoulders as remaining restricted around the clock during weekdays. That distinction matters to travelers arriving at night: construction workers may not be active when lane restrictions remain in place.

Are Lee Vining businesses open?

Yes, according to Caltrans’ October 22 advisory, businesses remain open and accessible. The construction notice does not announce a village-wide commercial closure. Drivers should follow changing temporary driveway-access signs and allow extra time to find a lawful entrance.

Lee Vining is a gateway for travel toward Mono Lake and the Eastern Sierra. Construction on U.S. 395 should not be confused with conditions on SR-120 or mountain routes; actual conditions may change due to weather. Check each state route separately, especially after storms.

Project funding and public information

The agency lists $26.24 million in federal IIJA funding and $3.52 million under SB 1 for the Lee Vining project. These totals describe the funded improvement project, not a new one-week expense. It is premature to assume delays of a particular number of minutes at any specific time; Caltrans uses the phrase brief delays.

Official source and conditions

This report is based on the Caltrans District 9 weekly traffic advisory published October 22, 2026, for work planned October 26–30. A listed construction schedule is not proof that a road is presently closed. Caltrans warns work may change because of weather, incidents or equipment. For travel immediately before departure, consult Caltrans QuickMap and posted work-zone signs. Motorists should slow down and move over for crews where safe.
