MONO CITY / LEE VINING, Mono County — October 22, 2026. A new Caltrans traffic advisory lists utility work on U.S. Highway 395 just north of Lee Vining next week. Crews are scheduled to replace utility poles along the corridor between Picnic Grounds Road and Lundy Lake Road, near Mono City, with alternating one-way traffic control.

According to the October 22 Caltrans District 9 release, work is scheduled Monday, October 26, through Friday, October 30, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.. The agency estimates delays of about five minutes around the operation. That figure is a planning estimate, not a report of an actual wait time on a specific day.

What one-way traffic control means for drivers

The state describes an operation in which traffic may be directed through the work area in alternating directions while utility crews replace poles. Drivers should watch for flaggers, construction signs and stopped traffic. Caltrans does not describe this as an around-the-clock closure of U.S. 395; do not confuse it with an existing paving and drainage project in downtown Lee Vining.

Nearby project: Lee Vining roadway rehabilitation

The agency separately lists ongoing pavement-rehabilitation work on U.S. 395 from State Route 120 West to Picnic Grounds Road, including sewer and drainage replacement. That project has its own weekday outside-lane and shoulder closures, while access is expected on weekends and Caltrans states that businesses remain open and accessible. Travelers may encounter more than one work area along a trip through the Lee Vining–Mono City corridor.

Anyone arriving from the eastern Sierra or heading toward Highway 120 and Yosemite should also confirm the current status of mountain routes. The scheduled utility operation does not establish that Tioga Pass or other mountain highways are open or closed; check those independently.

Before you drive

Check Caltrans U.S. 395 highway conditions and QuickMap shortly before travel. When work-zone crews are present, follow directions and do not attempt to pass vehicle queues.
