LEE VINING, Mono County — October 27, 2026. An upcoming local school bond proposal could affect classrooms, technical education and property taxes in the Eastern Sierra. Measure O, listed on Mono County’s official November 3, 2026 general-election measure page, asks whether an Eastern Sierra Unified School District facilities-improvement district should be allowed to issue up to $6 million in general-obligation bonds.

What improvements are proposed?

The official description says proceeds would support construction and equipment for classrooms and career technical education at Lee Vining High School and Coleville High School, including training in engineering, science, automotive technology, welding, carpentry and agricultural mechanics. School safety and security systems are also part of the stated purpose.

What would it mean for property owners?

The county’s measure summary estimates a property-tax levy of approximately $19 per $100,000 in assessed value while bonds remain outstanding, generating roughly $390,000 annually. Assessed value used for property taxation is not necessarily the current market sale value of a house. Actual bond issuance schedules and tax rates can vary.

The county lists a 55% approval threshold, citizen oversight and audits in the official ballot language. The proposed measure has not been adopted merely because it is printed on the ballot. Nor does authorization mean all $6 million would be spent immediately.
